Hawaiian Bull Rider Returns to PBR Circuit
May 28, 2006
COLORADO SPRINGS -- The Professional Bull Riders, Inc. (PBR) is pleased to announce that Hawaiian bull riding sensation Myron Duarte (Wailuku, Hawaii) will return to PBR sanctioned competition. Over the course of his career, Duarte has qualified for the National Finals Rodeo eight times and the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo four times where he won the bull riding title in 1995. He has won the bull riding title at more than 40 of the nation's top rodeos including the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, the Reno Rodeo, and the Dodge City Roundup. In 2002, Duarte captured the PRCA's Reserve World Championship.
"When I looked at the opportunities provided by the PBR combined with some of the new policies of the PRCA, it was clear that my best interest was served by refocusing the final years of my bull riding career toward PBR events rather than PRCA rodeos," said Duarte. "Not only does the PBR provide high quality events with more prize money, but there also are opportunities for me to become involved with event promotion as well."
Duarte along with his sponsor Peter Baldwin of Piiholo Ranch in Maui, Hawaii are co-promoting the Myron Duarte Maui Challenge, a PBR-sanctioned Enterprise Rent-A-Car Tour event in November.
"Peter and I talked about my future in and out of the arena, and we determined that the PBR was the best choice for me and my family both professionally and personally," he continued.
Duarte will remain on the PRCA Board of Directors through his term which expires April 2007, but he will not stand for re-election.
"I felt it necessary to remain on the PRCA Board since bull riders elected me to represent them and I will continue to do so with their best interests as my top priority," concluded Duarte.
